Aphrodite's Regret

Zeus married Aphrodite to Hephaestus because the other Gods would quarrel over her.  Hephaestus being the armourer/blacksmith of Olympus and considered quite ugly. She was also known to have an affair with Ares, the god of war. Hephaestus created a beautiful weapon made for Aphrodite as a wedding gift, but when he finds out about the affair, instead uses it to kill Ares out of jealous rage.  Thus the sword became known as Aphrodite's Regret.

The vines have a dual meaning.  Their curvature and shape matches the sword but also suggest a more feminine nature to this weapon. They reflect the terrible and extreme beauty of its owner.  The three intertwined vines represent the love triangle of the three Olympians, and the thorns represent their pain.
