Orcrist

From the story The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkein). Orcrist was found by Bilbo and the troup in a Troll's horde, along with Glamdring and Sting. Thorin the Dwarf, heir to the Throne under the Mountain, claimed Orcrist; while Gandalf claimed Glamdring, and Bilbo was given Sting.

Elrond of Rivendell translated the Cirth engravings: The Guard bears the name "Orcrist". The blade - "Goblin Cleaver". Elrond informs them that these swords belonged to the High Elves of the West, and were made in Gondolin for the Goblin Wars. A replica of the One Ring adorns the grip to remind the bearer of the Evil he is sworn to fight. The ring is engraved "In the darkness bind them", part of the spell Sauron cast on the rings:

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf Lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
